Hands-On Preschool Christmas Activities
Christmas. It’s one of my favorite times of the year.
And we continue through our homeschooling just like any other time of the year.
Why?
Because the way we homeschool is real life.
We embrace a relaxed child-led approach to learning.
My role is to set the environment to encourage learning in a relaxed and peaceful way.
Their job is to use the environment to set their own intentions and learn in their own way.
And Christmas time is no different.
Hands-On Preschool Christmas Activities
As I mentioned above, I set the environment. So I will set up the activities, model if necessary, then let me littles take control.
North Pole Small World
Materials: Santa, Glass Gems, White Paper, Christmas Figurines, Christmas Trees
Prep: The materials above are just suggestions. Use what you have around the house to create the North Pole Small World. I used square glass gems as presents, white foam paper as the snow, and cheap figurines I found at the dollar store.
Directions: Set up your small world and leave it sit out for your kiddo to discover. Let them explore any way they choose. I also like to add Christmas books and drawing materials close by for inspiration.
Grinch’s Heart Slime
Materials: 6 oz bottle of green glue (or clear glue with green food coloring), 1.5 TBSP Contact Solution, 1/2 TBSP Baking Soda, Bowl, Spoon, Heart Buttons (or sequins)
Prep: Together with your child add the glue and baking soda into a bowl. Then add the heart buttons. Mix together and add the contact solution. As you mix the glue will turn into a think slime.
Directions: I like to read the book How the Grinch Stole Christmas first. Then I set the book and slime out on the table and let them explore.
Counting Bells
Materials: Numbers, Jingle Bells
Directions: Invite your child to trace the numbers with their finger then place them in numerical order. Hand your child some jingle bells and invite them to count out enough for each number. Up the challenge by inviting them to move the bells with tongs.
