Heritage Studies is a fantastic and fun way to learn American History. Heritage Studies is published by one of our favorite publishers, Bob Johns University Press. Our family studied Heritage Studies Grade 4 last school year and loved it. We loved it because the lessons were engaging and well put together. I even learned a lot from studying this with my boys!
Who is Bob Johns University Press?
If you haven’t heard of BJU Press, let me tell you a little about their company. BJU Press is a biblically-based company who interweaves school with a biblical worldview, hands-on, learning, creative problem solving, and critical thinking.
Their teaching style uses reading and workbooks for most of their subjects. They also have a digital version of their courses that features a teacher teaching the lesson, student text, workbook pages, tests, and handouts. BJU is also pioneering technology.
They offer e-textbooks, online classrooms, online teacher tools, and distance learning. Through all these materials they are supporting the Homeschooling community. They are bringing us into a new generation.
Distance Learning Online
This year we used the Distance Learning Online for Heritage Studies Grade 4. Despite it being Grade 4, I was able to use this program for my 4th and 5th grader at the same time. The topics were engaging, and the workbooks were age-appropriate for both boys.
In the digital version, you receive online teacher instruction, student textbook, activity textbook, handouts, tests for each lesson along with answer key, and a calendar with a schedule to help manage all the materials.
Once you have an account online, you will have a digital schedule that will mark off when each lesson is completed. It will prompt your student what to do on each day. When completed those tasks will be checked off. This really helps keep your student on top of all assignments.
What Do I Need If I Do Not Want the Distance Learning Online?
If you do not want to buy the Distance Learning Online program (it is a little spendy), I recommend buying the Student Text, Student Activity Manual, and quizzes along with answer key. This will cost approximately $100. This history program is set up perfectly to help your child learn the lessons at hand.
When we did this history last year, I read a couple of pages of the Student Text to both of my boys. My oldest son has learning disabilities and benefits more from me reading the text to him. By reading the text to my sons, I could delve into American History with them. We loved it! Once I read the text, my sons would work on their workbook pages separately. If they needed help, I was there to assist them or remind them key pieces they may have missed.
I recommend Heritage Studies by BJU Press. I love the core values the company represents. I like how they set up each lesson and how they all correspond so well together. If you are looking for a fun American History curriculum that is from a biblical worldview, look into Heritage Studies. You will not be disappointed.
