Does your child struggle math?
Does your child enjoy it? I can say my kids thoroughly enjoy math. Math U See is a great math program that teaches your child to build, write, and say their math problems. It is hindered on what they call a multi-sensory approach.
My children started using Math U See a couple year ago. I liked the multi-sensory teaching style. Plus, my kids really liked the blocks because they resembled Legos!
Strong Math Foundation
Math U See offers a strong math foundation because it is always building upon previous lessons. Each lesson has 1 video [approximately 3-5 minutes long] and 6 pages of student activities. The first 3 pages are dedicated to learning a new concept. For example, one lesson may teach how to add 1 to every number 0-9. Then the next lesson will teach how to add 2 to every number 0-9 and so forth.
The last 3 pages are dedicated to a cumulative review of the previous lessons learned. These pages are a great asset because it allows your child to constantly be reviewing. This is crucial to your child retaining what they are learning.
Math U See sets also come with a teachers manual and a book of tests for that math level. I really like the math tests because it allows me to test what my children have retained so far. My homeschool policy is if you get above an 85 of a test, you can pick out of my prize box. It is fascinating how motivating that can be to get good grades! My children are always bugging me when they can take a test. They know if they work hard, they will get something small [like a sticky hand, a piece of candy, or a yoyo].
My experience
I feel I have a very unique story to share about Math U See. This last year my oldest son, Matthew [who has Autism] came back to school and had literally forgotten all this mathematical concepts we had mastered in the past. I felt lost, confused, and dumbfounded how you could lose all your past math skills. I really felt it was from one of his medicines he was taking, but he needed that medicine.
Luckily, I had been using Math U See and was able to go back through all our levels and reteach him math. I bought my curriculum through Math U See and I was able to print off tons of worksheets to help him. I didn’t have to pay anymore money for a new workbook. I was able to print off all the worksheets I wanted for FREE! We finally after 5 months of working our butts off, finally remastered all of the math concepts and are moving forward. It is so important to remember, just because we have a plan for a specific year doesn’t mean life isn’t going to throw you a curveball.
Conclusion
The great think about Math U See is it teaches from a multi-sensory approach. If your child, like mine, does not understand one aspect of it, you can use a secondary approach. For example, if your child does not understand how to add, you use the blocks as a strategy to learn how to add. Using three different approaches allows your child to learn differently, but still understand the concept.
I am thankful for the Math U See program because even in a very hard point in our math journey, it was there to help us AND it didn’t cost anymore money! I highly recommend Math U See because of this hands-on multi-sensory approach. I recommend it, because I use it!
